My Chemistry with Sciences

Through this blog, I would like to share my thoughts with the millions of high school students who do not know at the ripe age of 15 as to what they want to do for their entire life.😀

I am a high school student from India and currently pursuing physics, chemistry, mathematics and economics. As a 16 year old I have had to climb several mountains (subject choices) to get till here.

The mountains are to be climbed yourself but the ropes, harnesses, boots et al are available in the form of counsellors, teachers, parents, and school.

As a student myself, I am in no position to advise what subjects one should take or leave. However, through this blog, I aim to convey to the students who are in the same position as I was a couple of years back, that you will get there. No matter what subjects you choose, you will get there.

You will often find yourself surrounded by people who have done very well for themselves in their careers and will start automatically forming an image of them being your role models - whether vocally or secretly. Then you will have some of your peers who would be stars in their own right - who would have consistently scored full marks in every subject they learn. If this was not enough, you will also have people who would have compartmentalised you in a certain bucket depending on your grades.  Some will push you to not take sciences as it is hard. Some will push you to not take humanities as it has limited scope. Being born in an Indian family, I know what education means to the people here. 'There is no bigger game changer than education' is the value instilled in us from the time we are born. In fact 'A for apple, B for ball' is taught as the first lesson rather than life saving skills like swimming.

Coming back, my suggestion to all of you is to focus on what you enjoy studying, not what your friends have chosen to study, not what your counsellor is suggesting, not what your psychometric assessment suggests. Because there is one thing above all of it, and that is your own grit and determination. I scored an A grade in sciences- despite not scoring A*s, I have chosen to pursue chemistry and physics because I find myself at home when I learn these subjects. I immerse myself into experiential learning. I may be an outlier today but I know that if I am following my passion or learning what I most resonate with, I will find my direction.
